Editor's review

Return to the Prehistoric World is a popular-science work set in prehistoric times. Through accessible prose, author Liu Gancai carries readers back to that mysterious and vital ancient age. The book systematically introduces the long journey from the origin of life to early human civilization, covering the division of geological eras, the evolution of ancient organisms, the age of dinosaurs, the Ice Age, and the survival and evolution of human ancestors. Published by Northern Women and Children's Publishing House, it balances scientific accuracy with readability, aiming to spark readers' interest—especially young readers'—in natural history and the life sciences. Although ratings and discussion of the book on major platforms such as Douban are limited, suggesting it may not be a widely known bestseller, it still serves as a window onto the prehistoric world. Its content is organized around existing paleontological and archaeological findings; while it may not cover the latest research, it remains valuable for building a basic framework of prehistoric knowledge. In the editor's view, the book's value lies in its clear structure and comprehensive overview, which help readers form a holistic understanding of the history of life on Earth. It is more a solid introductory guide than a deep academic monograph, suitable for systematic reading in leisure time or as a starting point for related interests.
