Summary

A Long-Awaited New Edition from the Bestselling Author Dà Bīng, 2020's *A 2.0* contains the full text of the original book plus 100,000 new words and 8 newly added and expanded stories that will make you smile through tears. Eight years after making his living by writing, Dà Bīng candidly recounts his years of ups and downs and his Jinan; Lǎo Xiè, who has "throat cancer," can no longer speak or sing, and his little miracle; Zhōu Sān, an ordinary man willing to give up the whole world to stay with his daughter as she grows up; Xiǎo S, determined to return to Queenstown; and what became of the dying wish of Wáng Yuèyáng, the boy with leukemia who moved countless readers... They are ordinary people with a faint glow in ordinary life; they are the colorful children who once passed through our lives. Their stories show us that most legends in this world are simply ordinary people turning their heartfelt intentions into action.

Editor's review

*A 2.0* is Dà Bīng's new, upgraded edition following a series of bestsellers including *Guāi, Mōmō Tóu* and *Hǎo Ma Hǎo De*. The book is not a simple reissue but an in-depth review, revision, and expansion of his own past writing, and can be seen as an important milestone in his writing career. The book continues Dà Bīng's signature "jiānghú story" narrative style, depicting real lives that stray from the mainstream through multiple parallel stories. The characters include wandering singers, backpackers, bar owners, and craftspeople; their stories intertwine ideals and reality, warmth and loneliness, encounters and farewells. Dà Bīng's prose is rough and emotionally charged, and its core appeal lies in constructing a "parallel world" beyond the everyday, offering readers spiritual compensation and solace. In terms of content value, the significance of "2.0" lies in how it carries the author's shifts in mood over several years and his rethinking of earlier works; the new content and revisions better reflect his current values and the maturation of his narrative technique. For longtime readers, this is a journey of revisiting and discovering new details; for new readers, it is an easy gateway into Dà Bīng's narrative universe. Its reading value lies not only in the stories themselves but also in the idea it conveys of "multiple lifestyles coexisting," and in its record of plain loyalty and persistent pursuit in a restless age.

Can I read this book directly if I haven't read Dà Bīng's previous books?
