Walking Toward the Light

Summary
Lao Yu says: "I accept fate's arrangements, but I do not submit to fate's tyranny! Within the limits of what I can do, I would rather fight and die than lie down and live." Looking back on the past three years, he led New Oriental to rise from its low point, gave birth to East Buy, and gained confidence for the future; he read over a hundred books, conversed with nearly a hundred outstanding people from all walks of life, and left behind more than 1.2 million records of those conversations. Though the heart may turn white, the will to reach the clouds never falls! This book is a gift from a 60-year-old Lao Yu to the years. Let us follow the wise minds in this book and, in an era of rapid change, stay sharp, stay in dialogue, stay thinking.
Editor's review
In terms of content value, this is not strictly a methodology or success guide; its core value lies in offering a vivid, authentic "slice"—how a public-facing entrepreneur, stripped of the business halo, faces uncertainty, draws strength from daily details (reading, walking, observing nature), and redefines "growth" and "success." Yu Minhong candidly shares confusion, anxiety, and reflection; this honesty that does not shy away from vulnerability is precisely the most moving part of the book. For readers, it feels more like a long walk and conversation with a wise man; in the plain narration one can sense a life resilience that "roots inward and grows outward."
Reading this book, you will sense a distinctive "Yu philosophy": pragmatic yet idealistic, resilient yet warm. He discusses reading, emphasizing that building a spiritual world is the cornerstone against turmoil; he records travels, seeking inner order in the vastness of heaven and earth; he looks back on the past with gratitude and open-mindedness toward both setbacks and achievements. This underlying mindset of "walking toward the light" even in adversity has universal reference and inspirational meaning for ordinary people in an equally volatile era. It is not a book that offers immediate answers but a mirror that reflects the reader's own thoughts on courage, perseverance, and hope.
