Summary

Medical Talks by Renowned Senior Physicians of Traditional Chinese Medicine was compiled by Liu Qiang and Wang Weipeng, reviewed by Zhou Fengwu, and published in 1985 by the Chongqing Branch of the Science and Technology Literature Press. The book gathers nearly two hundred medical talks by 130 distinguished contemporary Chinese medicine scholars, including such masters as Feng Longbo, Cheng Menxue, Deng Tietao, Yue Meizhong, Zhu Liangchun, Liu Duzhou, Qin Bowei, and Ren Yingqiu, arranged in order of the authors' surnames by stroke count. A "medical talk" (yihua) is a free-form genre, not confined to a single specialty, recording in note form insights on medical history, medical theory, pattern identification and treatment, proven formulas, and the art of prescribing. The sources for this collection include manuscripts provided by the authors themselves or organized by their disciples, selections from clinical experience collections and medical journals of the time, and posthumous manuscripts of deceased physicians. The contents expound TCM theory, clinical insights, and distinctive views from various angles, including clinical observations and practical therapeutic experience not easily found in ordinary formula books and treatises. Examples include Ding Guangdi on treating morning diarrhea with the method of raising yang; Deng Tietao on chronic nephritis and on treating profuse uterine bleeding with single-herb human hair; Ren Yingqiu on differentiating and treating stroke and on "pathogens needing an outlet"; Zhu Liangchun on the use of pinellia; Yue Meizhong on pattern identification and treatment in relation to time and space; Qin Bowei on consumptive disease, headache, and the method of restoring yang; and Cheng Menxue on treating stroke. The book is one of the representative achievements of the 1980s movement to rescue and organize the experience of renowned senior physicians; varied in form and length, it is suited to casual desk reading and offers reference value for enriching TCM theory, broadening clinical experience, and raising the level of medical practice.

Editor's review

Reading tips

FAQ
