Summary
Writing as an ordinary father, Zhou records his son Koko's growth and education from birth to the present with warm, delicate prose and genuine, moving feeling.
Koko's childlike innocence, adorable sayings, whimsical ideas, and amusing escapades come alive under Zhou's pen, lively and lingering in meaning.
At the same time, Zhou Guoping is a philosopher, observing the tiny growth of a small life from language to soul, and exploring from Eastern and Western perspectives the universal concerns of all parents—upbringing and education—with profound reflection and original insight.
This book is not only a delightful, heartwarming chronicle of a young child's growth but also a philosopher-father's firsthand reflections on raising a child, offering a reference for young parents in today's age of parenting and education anxiety—for example, whether to welcome a new life, what matters most in education, and how to protect a child's nature and individuality.

About the author
Zhou Guoping, born in Shanghai in 1945, is a contemporary Chinese scholar and writer. He graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Peking University in 1967, received a master's degree in philosophy from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1981, and later became a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of that academy. He is a leading Chinese scholar of Nietzsche's philosophy, and is the author of Nietzsche: At the Turning Point of the Century, Niu Niu: Notes of a Father, and a large body of philosophical essays. His writing spans philosophy and literature: he translates and interprets classic thought, and in essay form explores such themes as solitude, the meaning of life, and self-understanding, in a plain but reflective style. Twelve of his works are included in this catalogue, covering philosophy, literature, inspirational writing, and also health and medicine, including books on health preservation and clinical medical practice, showing that his interests as a reader and writer are not confined to a single field.
