Twin Eagles Divine Constables (Complete 30 Volumes)

Summary
Editor's review
Who it's for
A good fit for
- Readers of traditional wuxia who want the complete "Twin Eagles" series in one set
- Readers who enjoy case-based mysteries blended with jianghu intrigue and episodic structure
- Wuxia fans drawn to a two-hero partnership built on complementary brains and eyes
- Collectors who prefer to keep a case-based wuxia series together as a set
Not a good fit for
- Casual readers looking for a single short volume rather than a thirty-book commitment
- Readers who prefer modern suspense or fair-play detective fiction and find traditional serialized storytelling hard to adjust to
- Readers sensitive to depictions of officialdom and grisly crime details
Reading tips
- Read in volume order: first get a feel for each eagle's territory and investigative style, then move on to the more complex cases.
- After every few volumes, jot down a short character note on the local constables and officialdom ties; later volumes will read more smoothly.
- With a knotty case, guess the culprit yourself before comparing notes with the master investigators' reasoning—it makes the case-solving more engaging.
- Don't force yourself to finish in one stretch; read in batches by case unit to keep the series fresh.
About the publisher
Wulin Publishing House is a martial arts fiction publisher based in Hong Kong, China, specializing in wuxia novels. Its current catalog comprises 29 titles, most notably the Double Eagle Divine Constables series by Ximen Ding, including the complete 30-volume set as well as individual volumes such as Forcing the Tiger Back to the Mountain, Blood-Washed Hero's Heart, Massacre, The Emerald Twin Beauties, Blood Rain and Red Lantern, The Serial Case, and The Qingming Coin. Sharing origins with the magazine Wuxia World, the publisher followed a model of serializing works before issuing them as collected volumes, and it released standalone wuxia books by celebrated authors such as Gu Long, Zhuge Qingyun, Wolong Sheng, and Huang Ying, making it one of the important publishers of Hong Kong wuxia fiction from the 1960s to the 1980s. About the author
Xi Mendin, whose real name is Wang Yu, was born in Quanzhou, Fujian, in 1949 and moved to Hong Kong with his mother in 1959. He is one of the important representatives of Hong Kong wuxia fiction. In 1980, he submitted "Troubles in a Small Town" to the magazine Wuxia World, formally entering the wuxia literary scene. He has since published more than ninety works, mainly wuxia novels with some forays into otherworldly fantasy. His representative "Double Eagle Divine Constables" series spans thirty volumes, and works such as "Cloud Swallow with a Leaning Saber" and "Tears of Heroes" are also widely read. Along with Huang Ying and Long Chengfeng, he is known as one of the "Three Musketeers of Hong Kong's Wuxia World," and has exerted a certain influence on the transmission of Hong Kong wuxia literature and the popular reading market. Besides Xi Mendin, he has also written under pen names such as Gao Jianting and Nangong Lie, showing a diverse range of writing.
