Sword Comes (Volumes 22-28)

Summary
In this vast world, nothing is too strange to exist.
At the center of heaven and earth stands a scholar who once cleaved a waterfall of heavenly river with a single sword, the most celebrated man in the mortal realm.
On the cliffs of the Eastern Sea sits a nameless Daoist who refuses to ascend and meditates atop the peak, wishing only for the breeze on his face.
In the Western Pure Land dwells an old monk who loves to tell people stories and keeps nine heavenly dragons.
In the wild southern borderlands lives a blind painter who commands golden-armored puppets as tall as mountains, moving a hundred thousand great mountains to lay out a splendid picture.
A poor boy growing up in the north one day saw tens of thousands of sword-flying immortals above his head, like a plague of locusts passing over. He wanted to see for himself that scholar the storyteller spoke of, the towering tides of the Eastern Sea, the endless yellow sands of the west, and the towering mountains of the southern wilds.
So one day, the boy slung a wooden sword across his back and headed south.
Editor's review
Who it's for
A good fit for
- Serial readers who have read the first twenty-odd volumes of Sword Coming and need to catch up on the middle stretch in one go
- Web-fiction readers who enjoy Eastern fantasy and sword-cultivation themes and can accept the pacing of a long serial
- Readers who prefer ensemble casts and classical atmosphere and are willing to follow a young swordsman's travels and growth
- Series fans who want to advance through several volumes at once in omnibus form and avoid waiting on individual books
Not a good fit for
- Readers who have never encountered the Sword Coming series and want to start from scratch
- Readers of traditional novels who prefer standalone, tightly structured books
- Readers with little patience for very long serials and large casts of secondary characters
Reading tips
- Review the main character relationships and key events of the first twenty volumes before starting this omnibus, to avoid confusing secondary characters
- Read in volume order, and after each volume summarize Chen Ping'an's whereabouts and shifts in mood in a few sentences
- Slow down at passages that switch between ensemble threads, and pay attention to the author's groundwork for worldly affairs and jianghu rules
- After finishing, revisit the swordsman's self-introduction at the opening to appreciate how the boy's travels echo the larger scheme
