Summary
The book tells the story of Liu Chuang, commander of the armed police Cheetah Assault Team, who, highly regarded by his superiors, forms the Cheetah Counter-Terrorism Assault Team and works with his teammates from within and without to strike terrorist organizations.
The book opens with Liu Chuang joining forces with teammates Xue Jianbao, Li Wenxi and others to combat criminal activities involving a certain biological virus; later, Liu Chuang goes undercover in a prison and, with Nuwa Assault Team members Xia Dong, Tan Yamin and others, rounds up a criminal group.
For his outstanding performance, Liu Chuang is appointed commander of the Cheetah Counter-Terrorism Assault Team, jointly formed by the Cheetah Assault Team and the Nuwa Assault Team.
The counter-terrorism assault team also takes on the even more important national-level counter-terrorism mission; no matter how many difficulties and dangers lie ahead, they never fail the trust placed in them and complete their missions successfully time and again.
And these young people, who share life and death, ultimately grow into a special-operations force that strikes terror into criminals.
Editor's review
Compared with his earlier works, Liu Meng shows more mature characterization here. The protagonist is not a template "soldier king" but a complex individual who grows through brutal training and life-and-death tests, filled with inner struggle and resolve. Through extensive realistic tactical description, equipment detail, and training routines, the author builds a highly convincing special forces world whose professionalism will delight military enthusiasts.
The book's reading value lies in how it rises above the conventional "thrill" formula of military fiction. It does not merely depict intense combat and impressive skills; it also probes soldiers' emotional world, career dilemmas, and value pursuits. Between national security and personal sacrifice, obedience and independent thought, teamwork and individual heroism, the author seeks balance and interpretation. The portrayal of comradeship and love of country and home is especially moving, reflecting the loyalty, sense of responsibility, and tenderness characteristic of contemporary Chinese soldiers.
As a work of realistic fiction, Blade Strikes is well paced, with both breathless combat chapters and humane passages of rest and reflection. It does not avoid the hardship and weight of military life, yet the whole book maintains a positive, spirited tone and conveys deep reflection on responsibility, courage, and growth. For readers who want to understand the real spiritual landscape of contemporary Chinese soldiers, it is a sincere and rare work.
