The All-New Atom Vol. 1

Summary
This volume is the first in the All-New Atom series, adapting the opening arc of the English-language original The All-New Atom, "My Life in Miniature." The story unfolds in Ivy Town: after the disappearance of the legendary Atom, Ray Palmer, the town has grown ever stranger, seemingly used as a testing ground by some force for decades. Young genius scientist Ryan Choi, a native of Hong Kong who corresponded with his idol Ray Palmer as a boy, arrives at Ivy University to fill the teaching post left vacant by his mentor. Following the clues Palmer left behind, he acquires the Bio-Belt, a device capable of altering an object's size and density, and is drawn into a conflict where science and the supernatural intertwine, taking up the mantle of the Atom. As a novice, he must face the serial killer Dwarfstar, who shares his powers but has chosen a darker path, and prove in a town where everyone seems to harbor secrets that he is worthy of that formidable name. Written by Gail Simone, the art blends retro superhero fun with small-town weirdness, making this the ideal starting point for getting to know Ryan Choi, the fourth Atom.
Editor's review
