Light Brigade Vol. 2

Light Brigade is a four-issue mini-series launched by DC Comics in 2004, written by Peter J. Tomasi, drawn by the Danish artist Peter Snejbjerg, and colored by Bjarne Hansen; it was collected in a paperback edition in 2005. The story is set in the Ardennes Forest on the European battlefield of World War II in late 1944: after landing at Normandy the Allied forces pushed forward but lost air cover to harsh winter weather, and the Germans seized the chance to mass infantry and armored units for a counterattack, and so the Battle of the Bulge broke out. A group of American soldiers is caught up in events far beyond ordinary warfare—they discover that supernatural forces are present among the enemy, and that one of their own comrades is in truth the legendary Roman centurion who pierced Christ's side with a spear a thousand years before; he has spent the long ages fighting fallen angels. With the war in the heavens and the war on earth intertwined, these ordinary soldiers are drawn into an ancient struggle between good and evil. This volume is the second in the series (corresponding to the original issue 2), picking up right after the encounter in Volume 1; it focuses on the soldiers gradually accepting their comrade's secret identity and on their facing once more, full of doubt, an enemy empowered by the fallen angel Gregory.
