Summary

He Shuheng was a delegate to the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China and one of the Party's founders. He devoted his life to the cause of communism, and his revolutionary spirit of working diligently and uncomplainingly, "toiling like an ox," will forever inspire people. Over his long revolutionary career, He Shuheng set several records in the history of the CPC: he was the oldest delegate to the First National Congress, the earliest "grand justice" of the Soviet red regime, and the first among the delegates to the First National Congress to die a heroic death as a proletarian revolutionary. Based on an immense body of historical research, this book presents in full the brilliant life of this elder revolutionary.

Editor's review

Drawing on a wealth of historical sources, this book presents a complete account of the life of He Shuheng, a delegate to the First National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party and one of the Party's founders. Several "records" in his life serve as narrative threads: the oldest delegate to the First Congress, the earliest "chief justice" of the Soviet red regime, and the first among the First Congress delegates to die a heroic death. These not only trace his personal experience but also reflect the hardships of the early revolutionary course. The author relies mainly on historical sources, emphasizing the sequence of historical facts rather than literary embellishment, making the book suitable for readers who wish to understand the history of the Party's founding and the collective portrait of early revolutionaries. While reading, one may understand the subject's experience by placing it back into its specific historical context, distinguish historical records from narrative evaluation, and note the author's selection of historical sources on key events.
