Reading tips

About the author
Liu Yong is a Chinese-American writer and painter. Born in Taipei in 1949, with ancestral roots in Beijing, he graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University and has worked as a journalist and as artist-in-residence at St. John's University in New York. He has long combined writing with painting and has taken part in public welfare work. His works are mainly essays and writings on personal growth and life experience. His prose is plain and approachable, often starting from everyday details to discuss self-improvement, social tact, and practical wisdom, and it has reached a wide Chinese-speaking readership. Five of his books are included in the collection, among them Firefly Window Whispers (new edition), Life Convenience Store, Liu Yong's Bestsellers: Three Books on Life (3 volumes), I'm Not Teaching You to Cheat, and The Hundred Taboos of Life, showing that his writing ranges from short essays to down-to-earth life guidance, delivered in a gentle, pragmatic style that conveys experience and reflection in accessible language.
