Summary

Wang Sicheng, a middle-aged sales elite, once led a comfortable middle-class life—until a sudden company layoff caught him off guard. After much deliberation, Wang Sicheng decides to start his own business.

Hinted at by Ma Dongming, director of the Qianjiang High-Tech Park, he resolves to take a risk and earn his first pot of gold by acting as a middleman in the chip trade. Later, based on market conditions and his own strengths, Wang Sicheng chooses to invest in emerging technology industries and successfully reaches a cooperation agreement with a university professor in a related field, and the company gradually gets on track.

But then the earlier chip business unexpectedly implicates him due to a partner's illegal operations, and his career hits rock bottom. Editor's review

As Ge Ce's deeper follow-up to the previous book, *Zhongbiao 2* is not a simple continuation of a business-war story. Taking the professional bidding field as its entry point, it rarely places the complex ecosystem of government and corporate project operations at the core of the narrative, revealing the full chain from information capture and bid document preparation to relationship maneuvering. Drawing on his deep industry experience, Ge Ce tightly interweaves plot development with professional knowledge, allowing readers to glimpse the operating rules and underlying logic of the bidding world as they follow the characters' fates. The book portrays with particular depth the struggle of human nature between interests and rules; the protagonist's moral choices and workplace dilemmas transcend the industry itself and touch on broader questions of survival. The writing style tends toward realism and introspection, with a steady narrative pace and attention to detail and realism; this may challenge readers seeking fast-paced gratification, but therein lies its value—it offers an immersive experience of industry knowledge and calm reflection on business ethics. More than a novel, it reads like an in-depth industry observation report with a human pulse.

Who it's for

A good fit for

  • Workplace professionals and researchers interested in the operating mechanisms of government projects and corporate bidding who wish to understand the logic behind the scenes
  • Professionals in marketing, sales, and project management who need to sharpen business insight and strategic thinking
  • Serious literary readers who enjoy deep realist style and prefer observing social reality and human nature through fiction
  • Working professionals facing career development and moral dilemmas who seek resonance and inspiration

Not a good fit for

  • Fans of fast-paced web fiction seeking light entertainment, strong plot twists, or romance
  • Readers impatient with or uninterested in business practice, industry details, and frequent professional terminology

Reading tips

  1. Read it as a 'documentary-style industry novel,' focusing on the know-how in processes and details rather than purely pursuing the story's ending
  2. While reading, reflect in light of your own work experience; many of the dilemmas and strategies described may offer practical inspiration
  3. If bidding is completely unfamiliar, you may skim the most technical passages and focus on character relationships and decision psychology; the core reading experience remains intact

About the author

阁策 Author

Ge Ce is an author about whom relatively little public information is available. His real name, nationality, and dates of birth and death are not recorded, and verifiable details remain scarce. According to the library's holdings, he has two works to his name, Zhongbiao and Zhongbiao 2, both of which fall under the common category of war and military fiction. This suggests that his writing centers mainly on military and wartime subjects. Judging from the titles and the category, the works likely focus on competition and confrontation within military operations or military life, though reliable materials on the characters, narrative structure, and writing techniques are still lacking, so speculation would be inappropriate. Although two works are not many, they form a related series-like thread, showing the author's sustained interest in this subject. In the absence of biographical background and authorial statements, readers' main entry point to Ge Ce remains the Zhongbiao series itself, and his style and influence will become clearer as more material comes to light.
