About the author
Jeannette Augustus Marks (1875–1964) was an American writer active in the first half of the twentieth century; public information about her life and education is limited. Six of her works are held in this collection, covering a fairly wide range of subjects. These include Early English Hero Tales, a collection of early English heroic stories for readers, A Girl's Student Days and After, essays on a girl's experience of study and growing up, and Vacation Camping for Girls, a practical guide to camping in the outdoors. Her writing was clearly aimed at young readers and girls, and she often told stories and shared experience in a warm, lively style that was both informative and encouraging. Other works, such as Through Welsh Doorways, The Cheerful Cricket and Others and Willow Pollen, show her interest in essays, fairy tales and nature themes. Overall, her accessible and gentle writing enriched the reading material and educational literature for young people and girls of her time.
