- Do close reading paragraph by paragraph with a Dutch–Chinese dictionary, compiling high-frequency words into a personal list for repeated review.
- Read one story a day and record yourself reading it aloud, then listen back to check pronunciation and phrasing.
- After finishing, try writing two or three sentences in Dutch summarizing the content to test your comprehension.

About the author
Hermanna (1877–1946) was an author active from the late nineteenth to the first half of the twentieth century. Public information about her life and nationality is limited and remains to be verified. Judging from the two works held in the collection, Verteluurtje and Vertellingen, her writing centers on short stories and narrative texts; the titles themselves carry a strong storytelling flavor, suggesting she may have addressed child readers or general readers who prefer light narrative. Such works are usually written in simple language and a warm tone, emphasizing readability and a sense of rhythm suited to reading aloud or oral transmission. Although biographical material is scarce, her works still offer a useful sample for the study of popular narrative literature of the period, and the presence of two titles indicates that she made sustained attempts at writing in this field.
