Translucid #2

Translucid is a six-issue limited series launched by BOOM! Studios in 2014, co-created by Claudio Sanchez—frontman of Coheed and Cambria—and his wife, writer Chondra Echert, with art by Daniel Bayliss and colors by Adam Metcalfe. Set in a New York without superpowers, its "heroes" and "villains" are ordinary people: a masked vigilante called the Navigator hunts a killer in the streets, while the crime boss known as the Horse is his long-time nemesis. The two define and depend on each other, forming an inseparable mirror image. Issue #2, "Brothers," pushes the narrative deeper: readers return to the Navigator's dark past and follow a boy named Cornelius, seeing how he escapes reality through holograms and superhero fantasies in a violent household, and how his older brother longs to flee the home on a scholarship. In the present timeline, the Navigator investigates the murder of a philanthropist, and the clues again point to the Horse; the latter detonates a bomb on a bridge, sending a politician's car into the river and forcing the Navigator to choose between capturing him and saving lives. This is issue #2 of the Translucid series, subtitled "Brothers in Arms," 32 pages.
