About the author
Carlos O. Bunge (1875–1918) was an Argentine sociologist and jurist. Publicly available information on his life and academic career is limited; his representative work currently confirmed is Thespis. He long devoted attention to social and legal questions and wrote such books as Our America, giving him a certain influence in Argentine intellectual circles. The title Our America indicates that his writing looked beyond his own country to the social realities and cultural identity of the entire American continent, reflecting the regional concern common among early twentieth-century Latin American intellectuals. Bunge's writings combine sociological observation with legal reflection, tending toward argument and critique and often examining social problems from the perspective of institutions and culture. Owing to limited materials, the full scope of his work and his intellectual development remain to be further studied.
