Editor's review

The Range Boss is a Western novel by American author Charles Alden Seltzer, a public-domain ebook in English. Seltzer was skilled at writing about ranch and frontier life; this work centers on the role of a ranch manager and features typical elements of the Western genre: ranch operations, personal conflict, and frontier order. The story moves at the pace of traditional popular fiction, with clear character relationships, making it suitable as English reading material or an introduction to Western genre literature. Readers can learn how early twentieth-century American popular literature imagined life in the West, but should not expect deep social analysis or modern narrative experimentation. As a free public-domain text, it suits fragmented reading time and expanding interest in genre literature.
