Summary

This book is written by Zhang Yihui, an engineer with years of iOS development experience, based on the features of Swift 3 and the Xcode development environment. Part of Tsinghua University Press's Mobile Development Series, it covers three major themes: core syntax, programming techniques, and practical application. The book is divided into three parts. Part One covers the fundamentals of the Swift language (Chapters 1–11), starting with applying for an Apple ID, downloading and installing Xcode, and using Playground, then proceeding through variables and constants, basic data types, characters and strings, collection types, operators and flow control, functions and closures, advanced operators and enumerations, classes and structures, properties and methods, initializers and deinitializers, memory management (automatic reference counting and reference cycles), and error handling, ending with type casting, generics, extensions, and protocols. Each chapter includes exercises and explanations to help readers learn by doing. Part Two covers iOS development fundamentals (Chapters 12–16), introducing standalone UI controls, page interaction logic, view controllers and common advanced UI controls, animation and interface layout techniques, and networking and data storage, with the goal of equipping readers to independently develop a basic iOS app. Part Three is project practice (Chapters 17–19), arranging three complete projects from easy to hard: a simple calculator, a daily life notebook, and a Chinese chess game, guiding readers to apply their syntax knowledge to real projects. The book ends with appendices on the CocoaPods library management tool and a quick-reference table of key concepts.

Editor's review

Who it's for

A good fit for

Not a good fit for

Reading tips

FAQ

Swift?

About the author

Author

Zhang Yihui is a Chinese author of technical books. Publicly available information about him is limited, and his only confirmed representative work is WeChat Mini Program Development in Practice. The book falls under programming and design and focuses on the practical development of WeChat mini programs, aimed at developers who want to build mini programs hands-on. This work shows that Zhang Yihui's writing emphasizes applying technical knowledge to real development scenarios, organizing content around project practice to help readers understand and use the relevant development methods. Because only one of his works is included in the library, his personal history, professional background, and full body of work cannot yet be described in detail; readers who wish to understand his writing style may refer to the chapter structure and examples in WeChat Mini Program Development in Practice. Overall, Zhang Yihui comes to readers' attention through a practice-oriented programming book that offers reference material for learning about WeChat mini program development.
