Who it's for
A good fit for
- Intermediate and advanced learners of Finnish who wish to use literary works for reading practice
- Readers studying the full range of Strindberg's work and the multilingual dissemination of Nordic literature
- Readers interested in Nordic fairy tales and short narratives who are comfortable reading in a non-native language
Not a good fit for
- Ordinary readers with no Finnish at all who only want a Chinese translation
- Parents expecting traditional cozy fairy tales or family read-aloud material
- Beginning readers of foreign literature who need systematic notes and introductions
Reading tips
- First read one piece straight through to gauge the language difficulty and narrative style, then decide between intensive and extensive reading
- Prepare a Finnish dictionary or translation tools; mark unfamiliar words first and look them up after finishing a passage
- Read alongside Strindberg's plays to appreciate the affinities in narrative interest
