Editor's review

Sandhya is an English-language literary work by the Indian-American author Dhan Gopal Mukerji (1890–1936), classified under American and Canadian literature. Mukerji traveled from India to the United States as a young man to study, and his writing often moves between two cultures—a background that gives this book a cross-cultural texture in both language and subject matter. As a public-domain e-book released by Project Gutenberg, the book's greatest value lies in its being freely accessible, easy to search and cite, and suitable as an introductory text for understanding Indian-American English writing in the early twentieth century, as well as reading material for those studying ethnic literature and cross-cultural writing. It should be noted that the book is an original English work and requires a certain level of English proficiency; the electronic edition was proofread by volunteers, and occasional typographical or formatting flaws may remain. Readers are advised to understand it within the context of Indian-English literature or English writing against the backdrop of Orientalism, rather than expecting strong dramatic conflict.
