Editor's review

Runola is a work by the Finnish writer and folklore collector Carl Axel Gottlund (1796–1875). The Project Gutenberg edition presents the original Finnish text and is classified under Finno-Ugric literature. Gottlund devoted long-standing attention to the Finnish folk-poetry tradition, and this book offers readers a directly accessible text for engaging with Finnish-language verse and folklore materials. For readers learning Finnish, studying Nordic folk literature, or comparing the history of verse, this public-domain edition is convenient for searching and comparative reading; however, e-book editions usually contain no translation or notes, so non-Finnish readers need tools or reference materials. It is best treated as source material for language and folklore study rather than a narrative work to read straight through: read selected pieces and use them alongside background knowledge of Finnish folk poetry.
