Editor's review

Rotkoista is a Finnish-language work by the Finnish author Konrad Lehtimäki, included among Project Gutenberg's public-domain eBooks. By classification it belongs to Finnish and Finno-Ugric literature; the author was active in the early twentieth century, a background that suggests the text may carry the realist concerns and psychological portrayal common in Finnish literature of that era. Since the available information provides only bibliographic details, readers should not presuppose a specific plot but rather treat it as an entry point to Finnish-language public-domain literature. Its value lies at the levels of language and literary history: on the one hand it can serve as Finnish reading material for observing early twentieth-century written style; on the other, as a textual sample for the study of minority Nordic literatures. Readers are advised to learn about the author's life and times before entering the text, and to avoid judging it by the expectations of English-language literature. Suitable for readers with some Finnish or an interest in Finnish literary history.

FAQ

Is there a Chinese translation of this book?
The available information only states that it is a Finnish-language public-domain eBook released by Project Gutenberg; it gives no information about a Chinese translation. Those who need to read in Chinese must look for translation resources separately and should not assume one exists.
What level of Finnish is required?
The literary written language of the early twentieth century differs from modern spoken Finnish; intermediate or higher Finnish reading ability is advisable, together with dictionaries and background materials. Beginners reading the original directly are likely to be frustrated and may prefer introductory material first.
Why is there no specific plot description in the information?
The input contains only bibliographic information, the author, the language, and the classification, with no content summary. The recommendation therefore relies solely on this verifiable information and makes no specific claims about plot, characters, or themes; readers should refer to the original book.

About the author

Konrad Lehtimäki (1883–1937) was a Finnish author, seven of whose works are held in this collection. Public information about him is limited, and the details of his life are difficult to establish. Judging from the surviving works, his writing spans the novel, the short story and the drama: the novel Ylös helvetistä and the story collections Inferno, Kuolema and Syvyydestä take up themes of the abyss, hell and death, showing a sustained concern with the darker sides of human nature and with existential predicament; Rotkoista continues in the same austere vein. In drama, Spartacus: Viisinäytöksinen näytelmä ynnä Epilogi treats the subject of Spartacus in five acts with an epilogue, while Perintö: Nelinäytöksinen näytelmä is a four-act play, indicating practical work in stage form. On the whole his writing tends toward serious, sombre subjects and moves between narrative and dramatic genres.
