Raspberry Pi Cookbook

This book is a practical beginner's guide and quick-reference manual for the Raspberry Pi written by the British open-source hardware author Simon Monk, with the Chinese edition translated by Huang Xin and published by China Machine Press in 2015. Organized in "recipe" (cookbook) form, it does not require reading from cover to cover; instead, it gives actionable steps for one specific problem at a time, so readers may either read in sequence or jump via the table of contents to the entry that interests them. The content starts from the most basic steps: choosing a Raspberry Pi model, fitting a case, selecting a power supply, writing the system image to an SD card, connecting a monitor and keyboard, adjusting screen size, changing the password, installing the camera module, and so on; then wired and wireless networking, setting a static IP, remote login and control, file sharing, and turning the Pi into a network storage and print server. In the system and software section, the book covers terminal operations, file and permission management, installing and removing software with the package manager, fetching source code with Git, and making scripts run automatically at boot. The latter half moves to Python programming and hands-on hardware work, covering variables and control flow, data structures such as lists and dictionaries, machine vision, digital input and output, motor driving, various sensors and display devices, and a separate chapter on how the Raspberry Pi works with Arduino boards. The examples are mainly in Python, with code hosted on GitHub for download and comparison. It should be noted that Raspberry Pi hardware and system versions iterate quickly; the book's steps and package names follow the system environment at the time of writing, and details may need adjustment in practice.
