About the author
Wilhelm Hauff (1802–1827) was a German writer known for his fairy tales and fiction. Nineteen of his works are held in this Chinese-language book database, including story collections such as The Marvellous History of the Shadowless Man, and The Cold Heart, The Little Glass Man, and Other Stories, and Tales of the Caravan, Inn, and Palace, as well as the Märchen-Almanach fairy-tale annuals for 1826 to 1828 and Mitteilungen aus den Memoiren des Satan with its second volume. Public information is limited, but these works show that he excelled at linking wondrous plots through the frame of travelers telling stories, blending folk legend, exotic settings, and a satirical tone in vivid, imaginative language. His fairy tales hold a place in the German literary tradition, are often mentioned alongside the folk-tale work of the Brothers Grimm, and have had a lasting influence on later fairy-tale and fantasy narrative.
