About the author
Gordon Home (1878–1969) was a British writer and illustrator. Public information about his life is limited; what is known is that his work centred on local scenery and travel writing. The library holds twenty-one of his books, mostly on Britain and on Normandy in France. Among them, York: A Sketch-Book presents the old city through drawings, the three illustrated parts on Normandy introduce the local scenery and customs, and Yorkshire, Yorkshire Vales and Wolds, Yorkshire—Coast and Moorland Scenes and Canterbury focus on towns, countryside and coastal landscapes. His prose is plain and concise, grounded in direct observation and often accompanied by his own illustrations, making the books both useful guides and pleasant reading for those interested in British local history and travel literature.
