About the author
J. C. Heer (Jakob Christoph Heer, 1859–1925) was a Swiss writer known for his novels depicting life in the Alpine countryside. Three of his works are held in this collection, including Nick Tappoli, the high-mountain novel An heiligen Wassern, and the travel book Ferien an der Adria: Bilder aus Süd-Österreich. These works show that he wove mountain landscapes and local customs into his narratives, in a plain style rich in regional colour, drawing mainly on life and travel in the Swiss and Austrian Alps. Because public information is limited, details of his life, education and career remain to be verified, but his works occupy a modest place in German-language regional literature and offer useful insight into Alpine society in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
