About the author
Percy Moore Turner (1877–1950) was a British art historian and art dealer. Active in the British art world for many years, he worked both as a writer on art history and as a dealer involved in promoting and circulating artworks. He was especially energetic in introducing French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting, acting as a bridge between British artistic taste and the art market of his time. Two of his works are held in this collection, Van Dyck and Millet, both studies of individual Western artists, suggesting that his writing centred on particular painters and combined biography with commentary on their works. Public information on his education, posts and specific activities is limited; his influence lies chiefly in his sustained introduction and promotion of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting.
