About the author
Hugh Wiley (born 1884) was an American novelist active in the first half of the twentieth century, known for popular fiction and short stories. Public information about his life and career is limited, and the only work currently confirmed is Lady Luck. Judging from that title and the existing summary, his writing tended toward popular themes such as turns of fate, chance, and adventure, with strong plotting suited to a general readership. In the first half of the twentieth century, the American magazine and popular-fiction market flourished, and many writers reached readers through short stories; Wiley likely belonged to this circle. Though he receives little attention today, his work can still serve as a sample of the popular literary landscape of his time.
