Editor's review

This is a German-language work by the German writer Leonhard Frank, available as a free eBook from Project Gutenberg and classified under Germanic literature. Judging by the title, the content centers on childhood, making it suitable as light reading for readers who want to approach original German literary texts. The electronic edition is easy to obtain, can be read on a device at any time, and is convenient for looking up unfamiliar words. Note that the book is in the original German and that the available information provides no plot details, so readers should treat it as an entry point for language learning and literary exploration rather than as a plot guide. When reading, use a German dictionary alongside the text: first read through to grasp the feel of the language, then examine words and sentences in detail. Readers studying early twentieth-century German literature may also use it as a supplementary text for understanding Frank's work. Overall, it is best suited to readers with some German who prefer electronic reading and wish to use it as needed.

FAQ

Is this book in Chinese or German?
The book is in the original German and is a free eBook released by Project Gutenberg, classified under Germanic literature. Chinese readers who do not know German will face considerable difficulty, so it is advisable to try it only after acquiring some German.
What level of German is needed to read this book?
The available information does not state the difficulty of the text, but as a literary work it usually requires roughly intermediate German reading ability and the capacity to understand sentence structure with the help of a dictionary. Beginners can use it as extensive reading material and work through it paragraph by paragraph with reference tools.
Is this book suitable for learning German?
It can be used as German extensive reading material, since its length and subject matter are relatively concentrated and the electronic edition makes it easy to look up words. But it is a literary work, not a textbook, and lacks grammar explanations and exercises, so it is best used alongside a systematic textbook or course.
Where can I get this book?
The book is released by Project Gutenberg as a free eBook and can be obtained on its platform. For specific formats and download methods, refer to that platform's pages, and check before reading whether the file format suits your device.

About the author

Leonhard Frank Author · German · 1882–1961

Leonhard Frank (1882–1961) was a German Expressionist novelist and playwright, born into a carpenter's family in Würzburg. He worked as a laborer in his early years and later studied painting in Munich, rising to fame in 1914 with Die Räuberbande. His works often expose, in a cold and unsparing style, the repression of individual spirit by bourgeois society; his representative works include Der Mensch ist gut and Karl und Anna, as well as Die Ursache: Erzählung and Kindheit. Persecuted by the Nazis for his anti-war stance, he went into exile in Switzerland, France, Britain, and the United States, returning to Munich in 1950. The library holds four of his works, and common classification information is currently unavailable; public materials are limited, and further verification of biographical details and overall assessment of his works is still needed.
