About the author
Sidney Colvin (1845–1927) was a British art critic and biographer. He is best known for his studies of the Romantic poet John Keats: Life of John Keats: His Life and Poetry, His Friends, Critics and After-Fame, and Keats, the two works held in this collection. Colvin devoted himself to art and literary criticism, and his biographical writing attends to historical detail and to the context of an author's works, discussing the poet's life alongside his creative style; his books therefore hold a place in Keats scholarship. Public information about him is limited, and the details of his life and official positions cannot be reliably established. His surviving works, however, show a plain and careful style, centred on introducing and assessing writers while also reflecting an interest in artistic taste, and they offer later readers a fairly systematic introduction to Keats.
