About the author
Hahnsson, Theodolinda (1838–1919) was a Finnish writer who wrote in Finnish; fifteen of her works are held in this collection. Public information about her is limited, and details of her life, nationality, and education are not clearly recorded, so only her surviving works are discussed here. Judging from her representative titles, her writing draws largely on Finnish rural life and small-town daily existence: works such as Mäkelän Liisu, Huutolaiset, and Viinantehtailia deal with rural families, poor children, and a distillery, while Haapakallio is subtitled a picture of Hämeenlinna in the manner of an idyll, and Muistoja Naantalista is framed as an old aunt's narration, showing her fondness for evoking places through memory and storytelling. She also published sketches and short story collections, including Pikku kertoelmia and Kotikuusen kuiskehia, written in a plain style for ordinary readers. Her realistic subjects and straightforward narration offer a useful glimpse of nineteenth-century Finnish regional literature.
