About the author
Villiers de L'Isle-Adam, Auguste, comte de (1838–?), was a French writer whose full name carries the title of count. Seven of his works are held in this collection, including L'Ève future, Histoires souveraines, Histoires insolites, Tribulat Bonhomet, Isis, Chez les passants: fantaisies, pamphlets et souvenirs, suivi de pages inédites, and Le secret de l'échafaud. These works span fiction and essays, and their subjects often involve fantasy, satire, and mysticism, written in a cold, symbol-laden style; L'Ève future, famous for its artificial woman theme, is often regarded as an important early text of science fiction and fantasy literature. Public information on his dates and biographical details is limited, and no conjecture is offered here.
