About the author
Ida Frohnmeyer (1882–1968) was a German-language writer active in the first half of the twentieth century. Public information about her life is very limited: her nationality, education and professional career are not clearly documented. Only two works can be confirmed, Und die ihr alle meine Brüder seid and Hansi, and these form the main basis for understanding her writing. Judging from their titles and what survives of them, her work tends to centre on characters and emotional relationships, in a narrative prose style with a gentle lyrical quality. The name Hansi suggests a young protagonist, pointing to themes of growing up or family life, while the other title, drawn from a religious invocation, implies moral exhortation and a concern for community. Though few in number, the two works show a writer seeking to connect individual destinies with broader ethical questions. Given the limited sources, the reception and literary influence of her work remain to be further examined.
