About the author
Henrique de Vasconcellos (1876–1924) was a Portuguese writer and journalist. His career spanned both literary creation and journalistic commentary: he wrote literary works and also left a body of critical articles, active in the Portuguese literary and press circles of his time. His representative work, Flirts, is the main basis for understanding his writing; judging from its title and genre, it deals with emotional and social life and observes ordinary urban experience. Because public information is limited, details of his life, education and professional career are difficult to set out, and systematic scholarly study of his work is scarce. The library currently holds only one of his works, and readers may use Flirts to form a sense of his style.
