Editor's review

Embers, Complete is the complete edition of the work of the same name by Gilbert Parker (1862–1932), released free by Project Gutenberg. Compared with the volume editions, the complete edition's greatest advantage is textual continuity: readers need not piece together clues across volumes and can grasp the work's overall structure and narrative rhythm in one go, which is especially important for understanding the author's style and thematic development. Project Gutenberg, founded by Michael Hart in 1971, is the earliest provider of free eBooks, and this book is part of its public-domain documentary system; it is in English and falls under American and Canadian literature. Its value lies mainly in the accessibility and completeness of the original text, making it suitable as a base text for reading English originals, interest reading in North American literature, or reference. Lacking modern annotation and introduction, it requires readers to supplement background information themselves. Overall, this is a public-domain eBook suitable for readers with English fundamentals who wish to encounter Parker's work in full.

  4. If used for research, record the eBook edition and release information for citation and checking against the original.

About the author

Sir Horatio Gilbert George Parker Author · Canadian · 1862–1932

Sir Horatio Gilbert George Parker (1862–1932), known as Gilbert Parker, was a Canadian author and politician. Born in Ontario, he worked as a teacher and journalist before settling in London. He is known for novels depicting the lives of French Canadians, notably Pierre and His People and The Seats of the Mighty, the latter held in the library as a complete edition and in several volumes. From 1900 to 1918 he served as a Member of the British House of Commons, making him one of the few Canadian-born figures to achieve distinction in both literature and politics. His works often draw on Canadian history and French-Canadian society, with romantic narrative and attention to character and local setting. The library holds 134 of his works; classification information is limited, as are public records of the details of his writing.
