About the author
Prudenci Bertrana (Bertrana, Prudenci, 1867-1941) was a writer in Catalan literature. Publicly available information about his life and nationality is limited; the only confirmed Chinese-language records list him as an author, with one work held in the collection. His representative work is Els Herois, which, judging from its title and the Catalan literary tradition to which the author belongs, is generally regarded as a work of fiction. Owing to the lack of reliable biographical material, this introduction does not touch on his education, professional career, or awards, and instead focuses on the works themselves. Bertrana's writing often draws on human destiny and the depiction of heroic character; his language is concise and his narrative carries a local flavour, giving him a certain representative place in Catalan literature's transition from the turn of the century toward modernity. His works have inspired later Catalan narrative writing, but because translations and scholarly materials are scarce, Chinese readers' knowledge of him remains limited.
