About the author
Joseph E. Morris, whose full name was Joseph Ernest Morris, was a British travel writer. Public information about him is limited, and the dates of his birth and death are now unknown. In the early twentieth century he wrote travel guides for publishers such as Adam and Charles Black and Methuen. Five of his works are held in this collection, including The Lake of Lucerne, The Channel Islands, The Isle of Man, Belgium and The Lake of Geneva, and he also produced a guide to Yorkshire. These books combine historical background with local scenery, are solidly researched and finely observed, and serve both as practical companions for travellers and as a record of early twentieth-century travel writing on various European lakes, islands and regions.
