About the author
Frank Benton (1852–1919) was an American entomologist and beekeeping expert. Public information about him is limited, and the details of his life are not abundant; what is known, however, shows that he long worked on the promotion of beekeeping techniques within the agricultural administration, bringing scientific knowledge into beekeeping practice and helping beekeepers improve their methods and production. Only one work by him is held in the collection, Bee Keeping, a practical guide to apiculture. Writing of this kind is usually addressed to general readers and working practitioners, with plain language and an emphasis on operations and experience rather than abstract theory. As the main written work he left behind, the book reflects his approach of combining entomological research with beekeeping practice and offers a glimpse of how beekeeping techniques were promoted in the United States at the time.
