About the author
Pierre Benoît (1886–1962) was a French novelist best known for his adventure novel L'Atlantide (Atlantida), and he was elected to the Académie française. His career spanned the first half of the twentieth century, and his works often drew on exotic locales and mysterious legends, with tightly plotted, suspenseful narratives that weave together exploration, romance, and unknown civilizations to create an atmosphere rich in exoticism. L'Atlantide is his most widely known representative work, circulated under different titles and translated into many languages, and it has exercised a certain influence on later adventure literature. Two of his works are held in this collection, both centered on this theme. Public information on his early life and education is limited, but the works available show a writing orientation that emphasizes readability and a legendary quality.
