- Readers interested in early twentieth-century Spanish regional description
- Readers who want short public-domain texts for bilingual language practice
Not a good fit for

- Beginning readers of foreign literature who need detailed notes and introductions
Reading tips
- Read a Chinese or Spanish introduction to Catalan literary background before the original, reducing the double barrier of language and context.
- Read section by section by scene; first grasp characters and places, then return to unfamiliar words, avoiding word-by-word dictionary lookup that breaks the rhythm.
- Prepare a Catalan dictionary or online comparison tool, and note recurring local vocabulary and dialogue patterns.
- Use it as selected language-learning material; there is no need to finish it in one sitting—split it into several short readings according to length.

About the author
Joseph Morató (1875–1918) was a Catalan journalist, playwright, and literary critic active in the Barcelona literary scene. Public information about his life is limited, and his early years and education are difficult to verify; nonetheless, his surviving works and literary activities show that he was deeply involved in the cultural debates and theatrical practice of Barcelona at the time. His representative works include Els habitants de la lluna and Arran del Cingle, which draw mainly on Catalan local life and are marked by a satirical, observant tone toward reality. He insisted on writing in Catalan, reflecting a self-conscious commitment to the literature of his own language. As a critic, his plays and newspaper articles had a certain influence in Catalan literary circles of the period, and two of his works are held in this collection.
