About the author
Al Sevcik (born Albert E. Sevcik in 1930) was an American science fiction writer born in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. Public information about him is limited, and many details of his life remain obscure; what can be confirmed centers mainly on his work as a writer of short stories. His fiction appeared in pulp science fiction magazines such as Astonishing Science Fiction, placing him within mid-twentieth-century American magazine science fiction culture. Three of his works are held in the collection: A Matter of Magnitude, Alien Offer, and Survival Tactics. Judging by their titles and venues, they explore classic science fiction themes such as scales of technology, alien contact, and survival strategies, told in short, direct form and bearing the clear marks of the genre fiction of their era. Though he never joined the ranks of major science fiction names, these short stories remain concrete examples for studying the popular science fiction landscape of the time.
