About the author

Public information about Huang Lou is limited, and his nationality, dates of birth and death, and academic background cannot be confirmed. Judging from the three works held in the collection, his writing focuses on the political history of the mid-to-late Tang dynasty and on excavated documents. His representative work is The Shence Army and Eunuch Politics in the Mid-to-Late Tang Dynasty, published in two volumes and later reissued in a revised and expanded edition, which suggests a scholarly habit of continual revision and supplementation. The book takes the relationship between the Shence Army and eunuch politics as its entry point and traces the evolution of power structures in the mid-to-late Tang. His other work, A Study of Government Account Books Unearthed at Turpan, turns to the collation and interpretation of excavated local government documents. One subject is political history, the other documentary research; both are grounded in historical sources and emphasize empirical analysis, making them suitable for readers of history and politics.
