About the author

Luo Binwang was a Tang dynasty poet. Limited public information survives about his life, and both his birth and death years and his native place are difficult to establish with certainty; the library holds five of his works. The selected pieces include "Zhi Fenshui Shu," "Accompanying Xue Sikong of Runzhou to Dantu Gui," and "Yuefu Song: Wang Zhaojun," covering frontier travel, occasional and reciprocating verse, and old yuefu themes, and they are commonly classified under ancient poetry, folk literature, and literary appreciation. His verse is concise in language and vivid in imagery, skilled at creating a vast, desolate atmosphere and a sense of history within a short span, with particular strength in yuefu and five-character poems. As a notable poet of the early Tang, Luo Binwang is well known in later poetic circles, and his works are often included in anthologies of classical poetry, offering some reference value for understanding the thematic expansion and linguistic style of Tang poetry.
