About the author

Public information about Gu Tao is limited; what is currently known is three works under the name, spanning history, literary essays and law. The historical work Rites and the Frontier: The Tongdian and China's Institutional Tradition examines the institutional tradition carried by the Tongdian and the place of ritual in frontier governance, showing the author's engagement with the history of ancient institutions and frontier issues. Farming, Reading, and the Classics (Phoenix Branch Essay Series) belongs to belles-lettres: grounded in a life of tilling and reading and in the study of the classics and histories, it reads as informal essays and reading notes, with a scholar's reflective and narrative interest. A third title, Research on the Tax Law System of Cross-Border Mergers and Acquisitions: Principles, Regulation and Classic Cases, reflects the author's professional grounding in tax law and cross-border transaction law. The three books differ widely in subject, offering institutional and legal studies as well as an essay collection shaped by personal reading and lived experience, so readers may choose according to their interests.
