About the author

Gu Zhijing is an author about whom limited public information is available. Three related works can currently be confirmed: Reflections on Classical Chinese Poetry, The Literary Mind of Classical Chinese, and The Collected Letters from Gu Sui to Zhou Ruchang. These works show that Gu's focus is on the interpretation and appreciation of classical Chinese poetry and literary thought, together with the compilation of epistolary materials. Writing of this kind generally takes the form of appreciation and essays, attending to the flavor and literary lineage of classical poetry and prose through close reading of specific texts rather than abstract theoretical exposition. Based on the available information, Gu Zhijing's life experience, background, and further writings cannot be confirmed, and the number of works is small; nevertheless, the three works echo one another in subject matter and indicate a sustained interest in the classical literary tradition. Readers may regard these works as companion reading for entering classical poetry and literary thought, appreciating the expressive modes of traditional writing through close reading and felt response.
