震钧

Zhen Jun was a scholar active around the late Qing and early Republican period. Public information about him is limited, and his life, native place, and dates of birth and death can no longer be reliably ascertained. Judging from the ten works held in the collection, his writings center almost entirely on Tianzhi Ourwen (Occasional Notes on the Capital), including a combined edition and volumes divided by districts such as the Imperial City, the Eastern, Western, Northern, and Southern Cities, the Western Outer City, and the suburbs. The book takes the wards and streets of Beijing as its framework, recording the evolution of alleys, temples, gardens, customs, local products, and anecdotes about people, along with institutional lore. It reads as a capital gazetteer mixed with miscellaneous notes. The style is plain and detailed, emphasizing firsthand observation and documentary evidence, and it is useful for understanding the urban landscape and daily life of Qing-dynasty Beijing.
