About the author

Chen Jian, whose dates and biography remain unknown, is known only through limited publicly available information. Three works are held in the collection, all related to the medical text Jinzhai Yiyao (Essential Medical Writings from the Jinzhai Studio), including a collated and punctuated edition and other versions. Judging from the titles and their classification under medicine, the works belong to the tradition of Chinese medical classics, concerned with the organization and transmission of medical theory, formulas, or clinical experience. As details of his life, native place, and professional identity are unavailable, it is not possible to reconstruct his practice or career; the surviving texts can only suggest an interest in medical practice and the preservation of documentary sources. The existence of a modern collated edition indicates that the book continues to be edited and reprinted, giving it some reference value for researchers of Chinese medicine and readers of classical medical literature.
