陈裴之

Chen Peizhi was a Qing-dynasty man of letters about whose life relatively little is publicly known; his birth and death years, native place, and official career still await further verification. Judging from the surviving works, his writing centers on domestic life, family memory, and personal feeling, with some note-style miscellaneous records as well. Five of his works are held in the collection, including Six Records of a Floating Life, Reminiscences of the Xiangwan Tower, and A Brief Record of Xiangyan, among others. Reminiscences of the Xiangwan Tower is notable for its commemorative recollections and its gentle, delicate narration of everyday matters, written in a distinctly autobiographical vein; it is often classed among remembrance-style writings and, together with Six Records of a Floating Life, is regarded as a minor gem of literati private records. His prose avoids elaborate display and excels at conveying feeling through detail, making it rewarding for readers interested in Qing-era notes and emotional writing.
