About the author

Lu Shusheng's basic biographical details, including his official career and dates of birth and death, are limited in publicly available sources and cannot be described in detail here. Judging from his surviving works, he is the author of six titles, including Mao Yu Za Shi, Qing Shu Bi Tan, Bing Ta Wu Yan, Chang Shui Ri Chao, and Cha Liao Ji. These are mostly miscellaneous notes, reflective sketches, and records of tea lore, touching on daily observations, personal reflection, and the refined tastes of a literatus. His style is plain and unhurried, skilled at conveying meaning in short pieces. He is often mentioned under categories such as Eastern philosophy, miscellaneous prose, and classic works, and his writings offer readers a glimpse of the essayistic style and aesthetic sensibility of Ming dynasty literati.
